Everton are on the verge of securing two major signings, with deals for Chelsea winger Tyrique George and Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney both approaching completion.

George returns to Goodison Park

The Toffees are close to agreeing a fee with Chelsea for George, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Goodison Park. The 20-year-old made 11 appearances after joining in February, and manager David Moyes is keen to make the arrangement permanent.

Although Everton declined to activate a £25m option included in the original loan agreement, negotiations have progressed on a revised structure. The deal is expected to involve an upfront payment of less than £25m, with performance-related add-ons that would bring the total close to the original asking price.

Hackney medical expected this week

Everton have also reached an agreement with Middlesbrough for Hackney, the Championship player of the season for 2025-26. The clubs have settled on an initial fee of £16.5m, which could rise to £25m through add-ons.

The 24-year-old, who has one year remaining on his contract, is expected to undergo a medical in the coming days and could complete his transfer by the end of the week. Crystal Palace had also registered interest in the midfielder, but Everton have moved decisively to secure his signature.

These acquisitions would provide Moyes with significant reinforcements ahead of the new campaign, adding the creativity of George on the flanks and the industry of Hackney in midfield.
