Jonathan Tah has vowed he would step up for another penalty despite his miss proving decisive in Germany’s World Cup elimination at the hands of Paraguay.

The Bayern Munich central defender fired over the bar during the shootout that ended the Mannschaft’s tournament campaign. The match-defining error sent the Germans crashing out, yet rather than retreat from the spotlight, Tah has embraced the moment as a testament to his willingness to accept responsibility when stakes are highest.

Tah Defiant Despite Heartbreak

Speaking after the match, the centre-back maintained that neither nerves nor hesitation played a part in his unfortunate effort from the spot. “To be honest, I felt good,” he told Sport1. “I wasn’t extremely nervous, which is what I actually thought I would be, but I didn’t hit it well.”

Tah stepped forward to take Germany’s sixth penalty in the shootout sequence. When asked if he would reconsider such a high-pressure duty in future, his response was unequivocal: “I would take one again next time.”

Personal Resolution

The Bayern Munich defender revealed that assuming responsibility in critical moments was a personal pledge he made specifically for the tournament. “I think it’s important to take responsibility in difficult moments,” he explained. “That was something I specifically resolved to do for this tournament. I wanted to take responsibility – and that’s why I did it [took the sixth penalty] in that moment.”

The exit marks a bitter conclusion to Germany’s World Cup campaign, with Paraguay advancing after the lottery of spot-kicks. For Tah, however, the experience appears to have reinforced rather than diminished his self-belief.

He now returns to club duties with his character publicly tested but unbroken. His stance suggests a player prepared to face similar pressure again, regardless of the painful outcome on football’s biggest stage.
