La Liga switch nears completion
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Gabriel Moscardo is reportedly on the verge of completing a loan move to Espanyol. According to Le Parisien, the 20-year-old Brazilian has yet to make his senior debut for the French champions since signing in the summer of 2024, prompting the club to arrange further temporary playing time elsewhere.
The deal will not include an option to buy, ensuring PSG retain long-term control of the player. This arrangement marks Moscardo’s third successive loan spell, following previous temporary stints with Stade de Reims and Portuguese side Braga.
Contrasting loan experiences
Moscardo’s first move after joining PSG took him to Stade de Reims in Ligue 1. That spell proved unfruitful, failing to provide the regular football required for his development.
He subsequently fared better during the 2024-25 season with Braga in Portugal’s Primeira Liga. The midfielder made 39 appearances across all competitions, scoring once. He also demonstrated tactical flexibility by operating at centre-back when required, gaining valuable experience in a defensive role.
Spanish opportunity
Despite returning to Paris following his time in Portugal, Moscardo remains on the periphery of the PSG first team. The proposed move to Espanyol offers him the chance to compete in La Liga, widely regarded as one of Europe’s most technically demanding leagues.
The transfer is understood to be close to finalisation, with the Brazilian expected to join the Barcelona-based club ahead of the upcoming season. For Moscardo, the spell represents another opportunity to establish himself at senior level, while PSG continue their strategy of placing young talent in competitive European environments to accelerate their growth.
