Braga secure Wind on free transfer
Danish international Jonas Wind has officially joined Portuguese club SC Braga after his contract with VfL Wolfsburg expired. The 25-year-old striker has signed a five-year deal that runs until the summer of 2029, marking a significant addition to Braga’s attacking options.
The transfer comes at no cost to the Portuguese side, with Wind available on a free transfer following Wolfsburg’s relegation from the Bundesliga. The Danish centre forward contributed 35 goals and 13 assists in 124 appearances for the German club since arriving in 2022.
Contract includes €30m release clause
According to the Portuguese club’s official statements, Wind’s contract contains a €30 million release clause. This substantial buy-out figure reflects Braga’s assessment of the striker’s value despite him arriving without a transfer fee.
The long-term nature of the deal suggests Braga view Wind as a central figure in their attacking plans for the foreseeable future. The Portuguese side regularly compete for European qualification spots in the Primeira Liga and will expect the Danish international to bolster their forward line.
Wind’s departure from Wolfsburg was triggered by the club’s demotion to the second tier, allowing him to seek continued top-flight football elsewhere. His record in Germany indicates he brings proven goalscoring ability and physical presence to his new club.
The move represents a significant coup for Braga, who have secured an established international striker without paying a premium. Wind will hope to replicate his Bundesliga form in Portugal as he begins this new chapter of his career.
