Udinese are pressing ahead with a major recruitment drive, with agreements in place for Athletic Club midfielder Unai Gomez and former Heidenheim defender Omar Haktab Traoré, while a deal for Watford playmaker Giorgi Chakvetadze also nears completion.
According to Matteo Moretto and Marca, the Serie A side have struck a €4.5 million agreement with Athletic Club for Gomez, with additional bonuses included in the package. The 23-year-old Spanish midfielder is scheduled to undergo medical examinations over the coming weekend before finalising his switch to the Friuli.
Creative midfield options
Gomez, a product of Athletic’s renowned youth academy, contributed two goals and one assist across 37 competitive appearances last season. His arrival would provide manager Kosta Runjaic with added creativity and technical quality in the centre of the park as Udinese seek to build upon their mid-table standing from the previous campaign.
Meanwhile, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano indicates that Gomez has already agreed personal terms with the Italian outfit, with both clubs having settled the structure of the transfer.
Chakvetadze and Traoré deals
Separately, Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Georgia international Chakvetadze is on the verge of completing his move from Watford. The 26-year-old attacking midfielder previously represented Belgian club KAA Gent before joining the Championship side permanently in 2024 for €2.5 million following an initial loan spell. He registered three assists in 29 second-tier fixtures last season and has scored ten goals in 39 senior appearances for his national team.
Alongside the midfield targets, Sky Sport Italia report that Udinese have moved to strengthen their defensive options by securing Traoré on a free transfer. The 28-year-old right-back, who can also operate in more advanced wide roles, saw his contract with German club Heidenheim expire recently.
Personal terms have already been agreed with the defender, who made 27 competitive appearances and provided two assists for Heidenheim during the previous campaign.
None of the three transfers have yet received official confirmation from the Italian club, though formal announcements are expected once medicals are passed and final contractual details are signed.
