Udinese are reportedly finalising a double midfield recruitment drive, with deals advanced for Athletic Club’s Unai Gomez and Watford’s Giorgi Chakvetadze.

Sky Sport Italia and respected transfer expert Fabrizio Romano indicate that the Serie A club have reached a comprehensive agreement for Gomez. The 23-year-old Spaniard has agreed personal terms, while Udinese and Athletic Club have settled the transfer structure between themselves.

Gomez departs Athletic

The midfielder arrives from San Mamés as a product of the club’s prestigious academy system. During the previous campaign, he contributed two goals and one assist across 37 competitive outings for the Basque outfit.

His capture would provide manager Kosta Runjaic with additional tactical flexibility as Udinese aim to build upon their mid-table standing from last season.

Chakvetadze set for Italy

Separately, Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Georgia international Chakvetadze is on the verge of completing his switch to the Friuli. The playmaker, who celebrates his 27th birthday next month, has established himself as a regular for his national side, netting 10 times in 39 senior appearances.

Watford acquired Chakvetadze from Belgian club KAA Gent in 2024, exercising a purchase option valued at €2.5 million following an initial loan period. Last season, he recorded three assists in 29 Championship fixtures for the English second-tier side.

Midfield overhaul

The potential additions signal a clear intent to refresh Udinese’s creative department. While Gomez offers industry and technical quality from deeper positions, Chakvetadze provides the attacking thrust and international experience garnered from his time in Belgium and England.

Neither transfer has received official confirmation from the Italian club, though sources suggest announcements may follow once final contractual details are concluded.
