Olympique Lyonnais have announced that midfielder Mads Bidstrup has joined the club from Red Bull Salzburg. The Denmark youth international has agreed a five-year contract with the Ligue 1 side in a deal worth €10.5 million plus a further €3 million in performance-related bonuses.
Bidstrup established himself as a regular under Salzburg manager Thomas Letsch during the recent campaign, starting 34 of his 36 appearances across all competitions. The midfielder contributed one assist as the Austrian club competed domestically and in European competition, demonstrating the consistency that has attracted interest from several major leagues.
Champions League Preparations
The acquisition forms a key part of Lyon’s strategy as they prepare to enter the preliminary rounds of the UEFA Champions League. Securing the Danish midfielder provides additional options in the centre of the park ahead of crucial European fixtures and the upcoming domestic season.
Lyon have moved swiftly to strengthen their squad since the transfer window opened. Prior to Bidstrup’s arrival, the club secured winger Kail Boudache on a free transfer from OGC Nice. The French youth international joins without a transfer fee, adding depth to the attacking options available at the Groupama Stadium.
Further Business Expected
The French club are also close to completing the signing of winger Julien Duranville from Borussia Dortmund. Sources indicate the winger is set to join for a fee of €5.5 million, though Lyon have not yet formally announced the transfer.
Duranville’s anticipated arrival follows the departure of winger Afonso Moreira, who has joined Bayer Leverkusen. The exit of the Portuguese wide player created space in the squad for the Dortmund youngster to compete for playing time in the French top flight.
With Bidstrup’s transfer now confirmed and further additions imminent, Lyon are positioning themselves to build a competitive squad capable of progressing through the Champions League qualifiers while mounting a sustained challenge in Ligue 1 during the upcoming campaign.
