England international Georgia Stanway has completed her free transfer to Arsenal Women, returning to the Women’s Super League following the expiry of her contract with Bayern Munich.

The 27-year-old midfielder arrives in north London having secured four consecutive Frauen-Bundesliga titles during her spell in Germany. Her trophy cabinet from her four years at Bayern also includes two German Cups and two German Super Cups. On the international stage, Stanway has established herself as one of England’s most influential players, earning 93 caps and scoring 33 goals.

European pedigree

Stanway played a pivotal role in England’s most successful period, featuring in the squads that claimed European Championship glory in 2022 and again in 2025. She was also part of the side that reached the 2023 World Cup final, cementing her reputation as a key figure in the national team’s midfield.

Stanway targets further silverware

The midfielder emphasised her ambition to continue winning trophies at Arsenal. “It’s an unbelievable feeling and I’m so proud to be joining Arsenal,” Stanway said. “This is a massive club that is driving the women’s game forward to new levels and I want to be a part of it. I want to win trophies and grow as a player, and this is the right place to do that with the backing of an incredible fanbase.”

Club confirmation

Arsenal’s director of football, Clare Wheatley, formally announced the signing and highlighted Stanway’s leadership qualities. “We’re delighted to bring Georgia to Arsenal,” Wheatley stated. “Georgia is among the best midfielders in the world with a proven track record of success at club and international level. She brings strong leadership, character and competitiveness and I know our supporters will enjoy watching her play in red and white.”

Head coach Renée Slegers echoed those sentiments, noting the tactical versatility Stanway offers. “We’re thrilled that she is an Arsenal player,” Slegers said. “She will add a new dimension to our midfield, bringing experience and adding to our winning mentality. We look forward to getting down to work in pre-season ahead of a big campaign ahead.”

From Blackburn to Bayern

Stanway’s career began at Blackburn before she joined Manchester City in the summer of 2015. During seven seasons with City, she made 186 appearances and scored 67 goals, collecting one Women’s Super League title, three FA Cups and three League Cups prior to her move to Germany.

She now links up with her new teammates as Arsenal prepare for the forthcoming campaign, with the club aiming to challenge for domestic and European honours.
