Borussia Mönchengladbach have placed a €15 million valuation on goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas as the Bundesliga club prepares to field offers for the shot-stopper this summer. The German side are willing to negotiate the departure of their keeper, who has attracted concrete interest from four separate clubs across three countries following an impressive campaign.

According to Bild, Nicolas holds firm proposals from within the Bundesliga, relegated outfit Wolfsburg, plus clubs in Spain and England. Wolfsburg, who dropped to the second tier last season, are among the parties keen to secure the former Germany Under-21 international. Nicolas established himself as a reliable presence between the posts during the previous term, alerting scouts to his availability.

The North Rhine-Westphalia outfit have made their financial position clear: a fee in the region of €15 million would be required to prise the keeper from Borussia-Park. This valuation reflects both Nicolas’s emerging status and the current market for proven goalkeepers.

Replacement strategy

Gladbach have prepared for Nicolas’s potential exit by identifying Hertha BSC’s Tjark Ernst as the ideal successor. The 23-year-old custodian represents a cost-effective solution, with a release clause set at just €5 million following Hertha’s demotion from the Bundesliga.

The proposed transaction would allow Die Fohlen to bank a considerable profit whilst securing a long-term alternative. Ernst has impressed scouts despite his club’s relegation, making him an attractive investment for the Borussia-Park outfit.

Rivals circling

However, securing Ernst’s signature may prove challenging. Scottish club Celtic and Dutch side Feyenoord have also registered interest in the Hertha keeper, creating a three-way battle for his services. With Ernst tied to the Berlin club, his departure seems increasingly likely given their second-tier status, though Gladbach face competition from these established European names.

The situation places the Monchengladbach hierarchy in a delicate position. They must navigate negotiations for Nicolas’s exit whilst simultaneously fending off rival suitors for their preferred replacement. The transfer domino effect could resolve quickly should one club meet the €15 million asking price, triggering a rapid move for Ernst before the window closes.
