Strasbourg Turn to Frank
RC Strasbourg Alsace have identified former Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford manager Thomas Frank as their priority target to fill the managerial vacancy created by Gary O’Neil’s recent departure to Ipswich Town.
The Ligue 1 side are working against the clock to secure an appointment before 8 July, when the first-team squad reports for pre-season training. Journalists Sacha Tavolieri and Mohamed Toubache-Ter report that contact has already been established with the Danish coach, who has been without a club since leaving North London.
Managerial Instability
O’Neil’s move to Portman Road comes just five months after he arrived at the Stade de la Meinau to replace Liam Rosenior in January. His exit means Strasbourg are now hunting for their third manager of 2026, plunging the club into another period of transition at a crucial stage of the summer.
This managerial merry-go-round threatens to disrupt preparations for the upcoming campaign. Having already navigated the transition from Rosenior to O’Neil during the winter window, the club now risks entering the new season with a third different voice in the dugout within a single calendar year.
Negotiation Hurdles
Frank’s candidacy has apparently superseded that of Wilfried Nancy, whom French outlet Onze Mondial had earlier identified as the frontrunner. Nancy, recently departed from Celtic, is now understood to be the club’s Plan B should talks with the former Spurs boss collapse.
However, securing Frank’s signature may prove complex. The 51-year-old is reportedly demanding significant influence over player recruitment and the appointment of a substantial number of assistants to form his backroom staff. These conditions indicate Frank seeks comprehensive control over footballing operations, a stance that will require careful consideration from the Strasbourg board.
With the new campaign approaching rapidly, the Alsace-based outfit face a race against time to finalise their choice and provide the new manager with sufficient opportunity to evaluate the squad before competitive fixtures commence.
