Juventus have confirmed Frederic Massara as their new Chief Football Officer, with club legend Giorgio Chiellini simultaneously taking on the newly created position of Chief Club Affairs Officer.
The appointments represent the latest phase in a comprehensive management restructuring that began last month when Giovanni Carnevali replaced Damien Comolli as chief executive after barely a year in the role. Massara joins following his departure from AS Roma in June and will report directly to Carnevali as the Bianconeri seek to strengthen their organisational structure.
Massara’s mandate
The 57-year-old arrives with substantial Serie A pedigree, having previously served as sporting director at both AC Milan and Roma. He was instrumental in Milan’s 2021-22 Scudetto triumph and spent last season in a similar role at the Stadio Olimpico before leaving amid reported disagreements with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
In his new position, Massara will oversee the management and development of the men’s football division while working closely with sporting director Marco Ottolini to define and implement sporting strategies. Juventus highlighted his standing as one of football’s most highly regarded executives.
Chief executive Carnevali welcomed the appointment, stating that the club is building “a solid, competent and cohesive structure” capable of supporting their ambitions both now and in the future.
Chiellini transitions
Chiellini steps away from his previous role as Director of Football Strategy, which he held for the past year, to focus on institutional affairs. As Chief Club Affairs Officer, the former Italy international captain will strengthen the club’s engagement with key institutions, strategic stakeholders and sporting organisations both in Italy and internationally.
Wider reshuffle
The changes are expected to prompt the departure of François Modesto, though Marco Ottolini will retain his position as sporting director. The restructuring comes as Juventus prepare for the 2026-27 season, having already secured winger Jeff Ekhator as their first summer signing in an €18m deal including add-ons.
Head coach Luciano Spalletti will lead the squad into pre-season training on 13 July, with their Serie A campaign opening at home against Parma on 29 August.
