Mason Greenwood is on the verge of completing a move to Fenerbahçe after the Turkish Süper Lig club moved to match Olympique de Marseille‘s exit terms. The 25-year-old forward, who previously played for Manchester United, has already given the proposed transfer his approval.
According to Foot Mercato, negotiations between the Istanbul-based side and the Ligue 1 outfit have advanced significantly in recent days. Fenerbahçe initially submitted a €30 million bid for Greenwood, though this offer fell short of the French club’s valuation. The Turkish giants are now understood to be meeting Marseille’s financial demands to push the deal through.
Seeking a Fresh Start
Greenwood is expected to depart Marseille just two seasons after joining the club. The forward reportedly wanted out to facilitate a change of scenery, and has already taken steps to sever ties with the region by returning the keys to his property in Aix-en-Provence.
Marseille are also keen to free up funds through his departure. The sale would provide the club with additional financial flexibility as they look to reshape their squad ahead of the new campaign, making the transfer beneficial for both parties.
Race Won Against European Rivals
Fenerbahçe have beaten competition from several established European clubs to position themselves as Greenwood’s next destination. Italian side AS Roma and Spanish outfit Atlético de Madrid had both registered interest in securing the striker’s services.
However, the Turkish club have taken a decisive lead in negotiations. Sources close to the player’s camp expressed confidence to Foot Mercato that the transfer could be finalised within the coming days, bringing Greenwood’s spell in French football to a close.
The potential move represents another significant chapter in Greenwood’s career since his departure from Old Trafford. A successful switch to Istanbul would see him link up with a Fenerbahçe side regularly competing for domestic honours and European qualification, offering the forward a platform to reignite his career in a new environment.
