Atletico Madrid are closing in on the signing of Kang-in Lee from Paris Saint-Germain. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that the move is at an advanced stage, with personal terms between the South Korean international and the Spanish club already agreed.

Fee Negotiations

The clubs are now working to finalise the financial details of the transfer. PSG value the 24-year-old at approximately €35 million, although earlier coverage suggested a lower range of €25–30 million. The gap likely reflects the structure of potential add-ons and performance bonuses rather than a fundamental disagreement over the base fee.

Atletico’s pursuit of Lee fits within a wider summer recruitment strategy. The South Korean represents a primary midfield target for manager Diego Simeone. The club is working to free up budget through planned sales, and the manager’s side has already shown intent with other confirmed deals this window. Romano notes that Atletico are moving with purpose rather than simply exploring options.

La Liga Homecoming

Lee is eager to return to La Liga, where he spent his formative years with Valencia and later Real Mallorca before moving to Paris in 2023. According to Spanish coverage, the midfielder had already reached an agreement on a contract running to June 2031, underlining his commitment to the project.

This is not the first time Atletico have attempted to secure the player. They approached PSG during the winter transfer window, but the French club rejected the enquiry outright. Talks reopened in June and have progressed considerably faster since, aided by Lee’s contractual situation.

The South Korean’s deal with PSG enters its final two years, reducing the French champions’ leverage to resist a sale. The club’s initial reluctance to sell in January has given way to a more pragmatic stance this summer, with a transfer now seen as workable for all parties if the valuation is met.

Completion Expected Soon

Once the fee structure is concluded, medical examinations and a formal announcement could follow quickly. Reports in both the Spanish and Korean press suggest the deal is now widely expected to reach completion in the near term, ending the midfielder’s two-year stay in France.
