Alexander Nübel has completed a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich to Turkish side Beşiktaş for an initial €6.5 million, with the deal potentially rising to €11.5 million through performance-related add-ons. The 29-year-old goalkeeper has signed a long-term contract until 2029, the club confirmed.

The Germany international arrives in Istanbul following three successful seasons on loan at VfB Stuttgart between 2021 and 2024, where he established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most consistent performers between the posts. Stuttgart, who enjoyed Nübel’s presence for three years, were eager to retain the shot-stopper permanently but were ultimately unable to afford his wage demands, forcing the Bundesliga club to seek alternatives despite their satisfaction with his contributions.

Back at his parent club, Nübel found himself surplus to requirements following the arrival of Jonas Urbig and the continued presence of captain Manuel Neuer and veteran Sven Ulreich in the senior squad. The former Schalke keeper originally joined Bayern on a free transfer in 2020 but found first-team opportunities limited, making only four competitive appearances during his first campaign. Despite his lack of playing time, he still collected the Bundesliga title, Club World Cup, Super Cup and domestic Supercup during that maiden season.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said: “Alexander Nübel is a very good goalkeeper who has consistently developed and established himself at FC Bayern, Monaco and Stuttgart. He now wants to take the next step at Besiktas. We wish him all the best for his future.”

The transfer represents a significant acquisition for Beşiktaş, who secure an experienced international goalkeeper entering his prime years with a proven track record across multiple European leagues. The fee structure reflects the player’s established status whilst acknowledging Bayern’s desire to secure value from a player who originally arrived at the Allianz Arena without a transfer fee.

Nübel’s departure leaves Bayern with Neuer, Urbig and Ulreich as their senior goalkeeping options for the upcoming campaign. The Turkish giants, meanwhile, gain a proven performer who demonstrated his quality during an extended loan spell in one of Europe’s top five leagues, hoping he will provide stability and experience for their domestic and European ambitions.
