Concrete Steps for Dutch Defender
RC Lens have made concrete steps to secure the signature of PSV Eindhoven centre-back Armando Obispo as they search for a replacement for Malang Sarr, according to Foot Mercato.
The 27-year-old left-footed defender has emerged as the French club’s priority target after Sarr departed on a free transfer at the end of June.
Sarr Exit Creates Defensive Void
Sarr’s departure marks the end of a two-year stint with Les Sang et Or, having initially joined the northern French side as a free agent. During his time at the club, the defender became a key component of their backline.
Last season proved particularly influential, with Sarr contributing significantly as the club finished second in Ligue 1 and won the Coupe de France. His exit represents a considerable blow to the club’s defensive stability.
Obispo’s Credentials and Contract
Obispo currently plies his trade with PSV in the Eredivisie. The Curacao international recently featured for his national side at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
His contractual situation could facilitate a move. The centre-back’s current agreement with the Dutch champions expires at the end of next season, leaving limited time for the club to secure value. Lens have already reached out to relevant parties to advance negotiations for the defender.
The French side hope to conclude a deal swiftly as they prepare for the upcoming campaign, with Obispo offering the left-footed defensive profile required to fill the gap left by Sarr’s departure.
