Karim Adeyemi is scheduled to undergo his medical examination with Barcelona on Wednesday after club president Joan Laporta confirmed the transfer from Borussia Dortmund is nearing completion. The Germany international was absent as Dortmund began pre-season training on Sunday, with the Bundesliga club confirming they had granted him permission to negotiate with the Catalan side.
Laporta publicly endorsed the deal during the club’s pre-season tour in Dallas, telling reporters: “We are very excited about Adeyemi. We’ve liked him for a while now.” He described the winger as dangerous and fast, praising sporting director Deco for his management of the negotiations. An official announcement is expected on Thursday once the medical formalities are concluded.
Financial structure and contract terms
Barcelona have agreed to pay a guaranteed fee of €22 million, though sources differ regarding potential additional payments. Gianluca Di Marzio indicates performance-related bonuses could reach €7 million, while other reports suggest the figure may be as high as €9 million. Dortmund have also secured a 35 per cent sell-on clause that would entitle them to over a third of any future transfer fee.
The forward, variously reported as 23 or 24 years of age, is expected to sign a five-year contract worth €6 million annually. The arrangement comes four years after Dortmund signed him from RB Salzburg for €30 million, and with his current deal running until June 2027, the Bundesliga side faced diminished negotiating leverage.

Adeyemi operates primarily as a left-sided winger and offers significant pace and pressing intensity—attributes that align with the transition-focused approach favoured by head coach Hansi Flick.
