Galatasaray are close to securing the signature of Lesley Ugochukwu from Burnley. The Turkish club have reportedly reached an agreement with the Championship side for the French midfielder in a deal valued at approximately €30 million.

The transfer is expected to be structured initially as a loan move with an option to buy that becomes mandatory under certain conditions. This arrangement would see the 22-year-old join the Istanbul giants on a temporary basis before the obligation to purchase him outright is triggered.

Relegation prompts rethink

The potential departure follows Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2025-26 season. The Clarets finished 19th in the table, condemning them to Championship football despite possessing one of the division’s most promising young midfielders.

Ugochukwu only arrived at Turf Moor last summer, completing a €28 million transfer from Chelsea. At that time, he committed his future to the club by signing a long-term contract that runs until 2030. However, the club’s demotion appears to have accelerated their willingness to negotiate his exit after just one season.

Breakthrough campaign

During his debut season in English football, the former Stade Rennais academy product established himself as a regular in the Burnley midfield. He made 38 appearances across all competitions, starting 29 matches, and contributed three goals and two assists.

These statistics underline his development since leaving the French club where he began his professional career. Despite his efforts, Burnley could not avoid the drop, finishing second from bottom in the Premier League standings.

Galatasaray opportunity

The move to Turkey would represent a significant step in Ugochukwu’s career, offering him the chance to compete for domestic honours and potentially in European competition. Galatasaray view the midfielder as a valuable addition to their squad as they prepare for the new campaign.

While an agreement between the clubs is said to have been reached, the deal remains subject to completion. Ugochukwu would need to undergo a medical examination and finalise personal terms before the transfer can be announced officially.

Should the move proceed as anticipated, Burnley would recoup their initial outlay plus a modest profit, despite the player’s limited service at the club. The loan structure with an obligatory buy clause provides the Lancashire side with certainty regarding the eventual fee, while allowing Galatasaray to spread the financial commitment.
