FC Augsburg have reached an agreement to sign left-back Hennes Behrens from TSG Hoffenheim. The Bavarian club will pay an initial fee of €3.5 million to secure the 21-year-old defender, with additional performance-related bonuses potentially increasing the total package by a further €1 million should specific targets be met.

The Germany youth international has committed to a long-term contract that will keep him at the WWK Arena until 2031, securing his services for the next six seasons. Officials are expected to confirm the transfer formally in the coming days as the clubs complete the remaining formalities.

Financial structure and future terms

The agreement includes a 10 per cent sell-on clause for Hoffenheim, ensuring the Sinsheim-based club receive a portion of any future transfer fee should Augsburg sell Behrens later in his career. This provision reflects the player’s potential market value growth over the lengthy deal he has signed, which runs until he is 27 years old.

The financial arrangement demonstrates Augsburg’s continued strategy of investing in emerging German talent with significant resale potential. For Hoffenheim, the deal provides immediate funds while maintaining a financial stake in the left-back’s future development.

Heidenheim loan spell

Behrens arrives following a six-month loan spell with 1. FC Heidenheim during the second half of last season. He joined the strugglers in the January transfer window seeking regular first-team football and made an immediate impression. Across his 16 appearances in all competitions, the defender contributed one goal and two assists, displaying his ability to support attacks from the backline.

Despite his consistent selection and contributions, Heidenheim were unable to avoid the drop, ultimately suffering relegation from the Bundesliga after a difficult campaign. The left-back now returns to the top flight permanently with Augsburg, where he will compete for a starting role as the club prepare for their latest Bundesliga campaign under manager Jess Thorup.
