Inter have identified Strasbourg right-back Guela Doué as a potential alternative after medical examinations cast doubt on their move for Anan Khalaili. The Serie A giants are racing to secure a new right wing-back following Denzel Dumfries’s transfer to Real Madrid.

The Nerazzurri had initially targeted Marco Palestra from Atalanta, only to see the defender join Chelsea instead. They subsequently struck a deal with Union Saint-Gilloise worth €25 million plus bonuses for Khalaili. However, reports indicated concerns over potential heart issues during the medical assessments, leaving the Israel international’s transfer in limbo pending further tests.

Milan rivalry adds spice

The situation has complicated Inter’s recruitment plans at a crucial stage of the window. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Doué has emerged as a prime candidate to fill the vacancy. The Ivory Coast international previously attracted interest from AC Milan during the summer of 2025 and could now spark competition between the city rivals.

Doué, who is the older brother of France star Désiré, has established himself in Ligue 1. Sources suggest any deal for the defender would exceed the €25m mark agreed for Khalaili, reflecting his experience and contractual status with Strasbourg.

Alternative targets

Beyond Doué, Inter’s scouting team has compiled a shortlist of domestic alternatives. Fiorentina’s Dodo, Genoa’s Brook Norton-Cuffy and Hellas Verona’s Rafik Belghali all remain under consideration should the club decide to abandon the Khalaili pursuit.

The coming days will prove decisive as Inter weigh the risks of waiting for Khalaili’s medical clearance against the need to integrate a new defender before the transfer window closes.
