Eintracht Frankfurt have reached an agreement with Anton Gaaei over personal terms, bringing the Bundesliga side closer to signing the Ajax right-back. Sky Germany reports that the 23-year-old Danish international has accepted a contract that would keep him at the German club until 2031.
The deal represents significant progress in Frankfurt’s pursuit of the defender, though the clubs have yet to finalise the transfer. The Bundesliga outfit are currently negotiating with Ajax Amsterdam to secure the move. Gaaei remains under contract with the Dutch giants until 2028, having originally joined from Danish side Viborg FF three years ago for a fee of €4.5 million.
Kristensen successor
Frankfurt are targeting Gaaei as a direct replacement for Rasmus Kristensen, who recently completed a €6 million transfer to FC Midtjylland. News of Frankfurt’s interest in the Danish defender emerged only last week, yet the club have moved rapidly to secure the player’s commitment to the proposed switch.
Since arriving in Amsterdam, Gaaei has established himself as a regular contributor, making 111 competitive appearances for Ajax while scoring seven goals and providing 13 assists. His performances have also earned him recognition at international level, having collected one cap for Denmark.
What happens next
With personal terms settled, attention now turns to the dialogue between the two clubs. Frankfurt and Ajax are currently negotiating the transfer details that would allow Gaaei to make the switch from the Eredivisie to the Bundesliga.
The proposed move would mark a new chapter for the young full-back, who has spent the past three seasons in the Netherlands after making his name in his native Denmark with Viborg. For Frankfurt, securing Gaaei would fill the void created by Kristensen’s return to Danish football and bolster their defensive options ahead of the upcoming campaign.
