Robinio Vaz faces an extended absence from AS Roma‘s pre-season schedule after sustaining a right knee injury during training at Trigoria. The 19-year-old Brazilian has been diagnosed with a lesion to the collateral ligament and will be unavailable for several weeks, according to Sky Sport Italia.

The setback occurred just days into Gian Piero Gasperini’s first pre-season in charge of the Giallorossi. Medical staff confirmed the nature of the injury following a training session this week. While the issue is not regarded as severe, it will still prevent the forward from participating in team activities for an extended period while doctors evaluate the development of his recovery.

Pattern of attacking injuries

The problem continues a troubling trend for Roma, whose 2025-26 campaign was disrupted by numerous fitness issues, almost exclusively affecting attacking players. The new season has begun in similar fashion, depriving Gasperini of a key squad member as he attempts to impose his tactical system on the group.

Vaz joined the Italian side from Olympique Marseille in January for a fee of €22 million plus add-ons. The teenage winger has made 14 competitive appearances since arriving in the Italian capital, scoring once and providing two assists during his first six months with the club.

Recovery and return

Roma’s medical department will continue monitoring Vaz’s rehabilitation before authorising a return to full training. The player is expected to miss the majority of the club’s warm-up fixtures as he recovers from the ligament problem.

The Giallorossi have not indicated whether the Brazilian will be fit for the opening fixtures of the 2026-27 season. Staff are prioritising careful management of the injury over a rushed return, ensuring the collateral ligament heals properly before the teenager resumes full competitive training.
