Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is set to complete a €1.5 million transfer from Marseille to Deportivo La Coruña, according to Foot Mercato and sources contacted by Get French Football News. The Gabon international has already departed Marseille’s training ground and will not join the squad for their pre-season tour, clearing the way for his move to the newly-promoted La Liga side.

The 35-year-old striker is expected to finalise terms with the Galician club shortly. The deal represents a significant acquisition for Deportivo, who secured promotion to the top flight last season and are seeking experienced reinforcements as they prepare for life among Spain’s elite.

The transfer stems from Marseille’s financial constraints under new manager Bruno Génésio, who acknowledged during his unveiling that player sales were unavoidable despite his preferences. “When you have good players you want to keep them, but afterwards there is also the contextual reality, before I signed I knew what would happen, that we would need to sell players,” Génésio said. “We could see players leave that I wanted to keep. It’s up to us to have a balanced squad.”

Aubameyang arrives at Deportivo with extensive experience from the Premier League, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 following previous spells at Arsenal, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund. The forward becomes the latest departure from Marseille as the club reshape their squad to meet financial requirements.

Deportivo will hope Aubameyang’s proven goalscoring record at the highest level can translate into crucial points during their return to La Liga after several years outside the top division.
