Ajax move imminent for teenage captain

Udinese midfielder Abdoulaye Camara is poised to join Ajax after the clubs reached agreement on a loan deal containing a virtually mandatory purchase option. The 17-year-old France Under-19 captain has reportedly been cleared to travel to the Netherlands for his medical examination ahead of the switch.

According to reports, the arrangement includes a €15 million buy-out clause that becomes automatic under specific conditions. Should Ajax trigger the option, Camara will sign a contract running until 2031, securing his long-term future in Amsterdam and marking a significant step in his young career.

From Montpellier to potential Amsterdam

Born in Conakry, Guinea, Camara developed through the Montpellier HSC academy before Udinese secured his signature last summer for €1.2 million. The potential transfer to Ajax represents a remarkable valuation increase for the teenager within the space of a single year.

Despite his tender age, Camara has already demonstrated notable leadership qualities. He served as captain for Udinese’s Primavera side and currently holds the armband for the French national team at Under-19 level, for whom he has earned three caps after first representing Les Bleus at Under-16 level.

Limited senior exposure

Camara’s experience at senior level remains in its infancy. He made a solitary appearance in Serie A during the 2025-26 campaign, though he trained regularly with the first team squad. His developmental progress has primarily come with the club’s youth team, where he continued to refine his skills against age-group opposition.

The move to Ajax offers a clear pathway for advancement. The Eredivisie club maintains a strong reputation for developing young talent and integrating teenagers into competitive first-team football.

What happens next

The midfielder’s immediate focus will be completing medical assessments in the Netherlands. Once formalities are concluded, the loan transfer will allow him to continue his development within Ajax’s system, with the Dutch club holding the option to make the switch permanent for the predetermined fee.

Should the buy-out clause be activated, Udinese would secure a substantial profit on their initial investment, while Camara would embark on a long-term association with the Amsterdam club through to 2031.
