AC Milan have unveiled their away kit for the 2026-27 season, recruiting club legend Filippo Inzaghi to front the campaign and embedding a powerful message of redemption into the fabric of the design.
The Serie A giants presented the new strip through a promotional video featuring the former striker, who remains a symbol of the club’s European pedigree. The kit itself is predominantly white with a distinctive red and black collar, maintaining the traditional Rossoneri colours in a subtle trim. However, the most significant detail lies concealed at the back of the neck, where an inscription reads: “After Istanbul, there’s always Athens.”
Historical significance
This message carries profound weight for the Milan faithful, referencing the club’s dramatic Champions League finals against Liverpool in 2005 and 2007. The first encounter in Istanbul ended in devastation for the Italians, as they surrendered a three-goal half-time advantage to lose on penalties against Rafael Benítez’s side. That defeat remains one of the most painful memories in the club’s modern history.
Yet the narrative shifted dramatically two years later. Milan faced Liverpool again in the 2007 final in Athens, securing a measured 2-0 victory to claim their seventh European title. Inzaghi proved the decisive figure on that evening in Greece, scoring both goals to exorcise the demons of Istanbul and cement his status as a club icon.
Design and messaging
The promotional campaign draws directly on this legacy of resilience. In the launch video, Inzaghi delivers the tagline: “Giving up has never been an option. Beneath our jerseys, burns the fire of an innate passion.” The manufacturers, Puma, have thus created a garment that serves not merely as a change strip but as a wearable reminder of the club’s capacity to overcome adversity.
The 2026-27 away kit is available immediately through AC Milan’s official store and authorised Puma retailers.
