Bayern Munich winger Luis Díaz has communicated his commitment to the Bundesliga champions amid strong interest from Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal. The Colombia international has told the German club he wishes to stay, while chairman Jan-Christian Dreesen has dismissed any prospect of a sale just one year after the player’s arrival from Liverpool.
According to Sky Germany, Bayern have not set an asking price for the 29-year-old and have received no formal bids. Dreesen told Kicker the club would be “stupid” to sanction a departure, adding: “We have such a fantastic squad, honestly. Let’s just get the season underway and start scoring some goals.”
Al Hilal’s Saudi Pro League approach
Despite the firm stance from Munich, Al Hilal have reportedly opened talks with Díaz’s representatives over a lucrative summer switch. Transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri claims the Riyadh club are prepared to offer the attacker an annual salary of €25 million and would be willing to submit a bid worth up to €132 million to Bayern.
The Saudi champions previously attempted to sign Díaz last summer with a salary offer of up to €22.5 million net per year. French outlet L’Équipe, via journalist José Barroso, corroborates the renewed interest and suggests an initial bid of at least €70 million is being prepared.
Conflicting reports on player’s stance
Sources present differing accounts of Díaz’s position. While L’Équipe indicates the player is open to the Middle East move, Sky Germany reports that Díaz is fully committed to Bayern and is not considering a transfer. This contradiction creates uncertainty, though the player’s direct communication with the club supports the latter account.
Bayern’s strong negotiating position
Díaz joined Bayern from Liverpool last summer for approximately €70 million and remains under contract until 2029. He enjoyed a prolific debut campaign under Vincent Kompany, contributing 26 goals and 23 assists in 51 appearances across all competitions. This form has established him as a key component of an attacking line alongside Harry Kane and Michael Olise.
With four years remaining on his contract and both player and club aligned on his future, Bayern hold significant leverage. Unless Al Hilal’s financial muscle prompts a dramatic change in stance, the Colombian is expected to remain in Munich as the club prepares its assault on domestic and European honours.
