Aleksandar Stankovic has described his return to Inter Milan as “impossible to put into words” after being presented by the club on July 7. The 20-year-old Serbia international rejoined the Nerazzurri from Club Brugge earlier this summer, with Inter activating a €23 million buy-back clause to secure his services.

Inter confirmed the signing on June 5, though the midfielder was officially presented to the media this week. Stankovic spent just one season in Belgium, having initially joined Club Brugge for €9.5 million last summer, but the Italian club retained the option to bring him back to San Siro.

Following in Family Footsteps

Stankovic is the second member of his family to represent Inter, following his father Dejan, who spent nine years at the club and was part of the treble-winning squad under José Mourinho in 2009-10. The younger Stankovic revealed his family’s excitement about the move, noting that his father is “probably even more excited than I am”.

“For us, as a family of Inter fans, with a father who played for Inter and won everything here, this really is a dream come true,” he told the club’s official website. Stankovic also emphasised that he does not anticipate a lengthy settling-in period, having spent his entire youth career with the Nerazzurri.

Familiar Faces at San Siro

The midfielder will work under head coach Cristian Chivu, who previously coached Stankovic in Inter’s youth teams. Stankovic credited Chivu with having a “huge impact” on his early development, recalling how the Romanian took him under his wing during his time in the Primavera.

Stankovic also highlighted his close bonds with current squad members Federico Dimarco and Pio Esposito, describing both players as “like brothers” to him. He revealed that he and Dimarco speak almost daily, while he first played alongside Esposito in the Under-12s.

Belgium Experience and Future Role

Reflecting on his season with Club Brugge, Stankovic praised the Belgian club’s emphasis on youth development, stating they “helped me enormously” both on and off the pitch. Despite his brief absence, he believes the experience has prepared him for the demands of Serie A.

Stankovic acknowledged that his exact role under Chivu remains to be determined once training begins, but expressed his willingness to contribute wherever needed. “I’ll do everything I can to help the team with the experience I’ve gained so far,” he said.
