Juventus and Italy legend Alessandro Del Piero has emerged as the figurehead for a consortium hoping to purchase and revive Rimini, the club that collapsed into bankruptcy last year and was expelled from Serie C.

The former striker has entered into preliminary discussions regarding the potential takeover, including an exploratory telephone call with Jamil Sadegholvaad, the mayor of the Adriatic coastal city. While no formal offer has yet been lodged with the administrators currently controlling the club’s remaining assets, reports indicate that locals and club executives have welcomed the possibility of the former Juventus star leading a rescue bid.

Rimini’s descent into financial ruin culminated in their removal from the Italian third tier. The club had already been docked 15 points last September due to administrative irregularities, a penalty that proved crippling before the eventual bankruptcy and disbandment of the playing squad. Those now in control of the club’s remaining assets are actively seeking buyers capable of restoring professional football to the city.

Del Piero is not acting alone in the venture. Reports indicate he is joined by a “mystery” business partner who has previously invested in several of the former striker’s recent commercial projects. The identity of this investor remains undisclosed, but their financial backing could prove crucial to any successful resurrection of the club.

The consortium remains in the exploratory phase, assessing the feasibility of navigating Italian football’s complex bankruptcy procedures. For Rimini, the involvement of one of the sport’s most recognisable figures offers both potential investment and the public profile necessary to rebuild support and secure re-entry into the league system. However, significant hurdles remain before any deal can be concluded.
