A section of Kajiado residents want Members of Parliament to control the multi-billion shillings National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).
Speaking during public participation in Kitengela town, Kajiado East constituency, the residents said NG-CDF has been instrumental in development projects across the country.
They noted that the Fund has helped build schools, provide bursaries to needy students, and improve infrastructure in many parts of the country.
The appeal comes following debate on whether NG-CDF should be devolved to counties or remain under the control of MPs.
The Fund has faced legal challenges, with some arguing that it should be scrapped.
Proponents, however, argue that NG-CDF is essential for equitable development, especially at the grassroots level, and helps the government address socio-economic development needs.
The Fund's operations are guided by the NG-CDF Act, which emphasizes public participation and ensures monies are channeled towards specific projects.
Last year, MPs suffered a major blow after High Court judges Kanyi Kimondo and Roselyn Aburili declared NG-CDF unconstitutional.
"The National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) as amended in 2022 and 2023 is hereby declared unconstitutional. NG-CDF and all its projects, programs and its activities shall cease to operate on the stroke of midnight on June 30, 2026," the bench headed by Justice Kimondo ruled.
However, Parliament is seeking to cushion the Fund from legal action and is currently conducting public participation on Bills entrench NG-CDF in the Constitution.
Eveline Kaise a resident of Noonkopir village in Kitengela said NG-CDF should remain under MPs control but with stronger regulations and transparency.
''MPs are closer to the people in their constituencies and understand their needs better,'' said Kaise.
She said NG-CDF facilitates quick response to local challenges.
''In this particular area of Kitengela we never had public primary schools, now we are proud to have more than three schools courtesy of NG-CDF,'' said Francis Kimani a resident.

Kajiado East MP Kakuta Mai Mai said the fund should be enacted into the law, to ensure the public continues to reap the benefits.
''As Members of Parliament we will not rest until this Fund remains in our office , we know better how it has helped our people including the poor and those who are physically challenged.
The MP reveled that through the fund, he has already implemented more than 80 projects including schools, and a police station.
