Aston Villa have made contact with Milan to ask about the availability of left-back Pervis Estupiñán, according to transfer pundit Matteo Moretto. The Ecuador international appears surplus to requirements at San Siro just one year after arriving from English football.

Moretto, speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s Italian-language YouTube channel, claims Villa want to know Milan’s asking price and the player’s current fitness status before deciding whether to progress with negotiations. The Midlands club’s inquiry comes as the Rossoneri actively seek buyers for the 28-year-old defender.

Milan ready to cut losses

Estupiñán joined Milan from Brighton and Hove Albion last summer for €17 million plus performance-related add-ons. However, he struggled to establish himself in Serie A, making only 22 competitive appearances during the campaign. He contributed one goal and one assist but also received one red card.

The defender is not believed to feature in new head coach Ruben Amorim’s tactical plans. Despite signing a long-term contract that runs until June 2030, Estupiñán’s representatives are now searching for alternative destinations ahead of the new season.

Milan are reportedly willing to accept offers in the region of €14 million. This would represent a financial loss on the initial outlay paid to Brighton 12 months ago, illustrating how quickly the club’s assessment of the player has changed.

Player profile and Villa link

Estupiñán, who turned 28 in January, brings substantial experience from several European leagues. Before his spell in Italy, he featured for Villarreal, Watford, Osasuna and Udinese. He also spent two seasons at Brighton in the Premier League, where he previously worked under current Villa manager Unai Emery.

This existing relationship could prove significant if Villa decide to formalise their interest. The Birmingham-based club are currently assessing their full-back options as they prepare for domestic and European campaigns.

Any potential transfer remains in the preliminary stages. Villa must first evaluate Estupiñán’s physical condition and determine whether the €14 million valuation represents value in the current market before submitting a formal offer.
