FC Augsburg have secured the services of left-back Hennes Behrens from TSG Hoffenheim, with both Bundesliga clubs confirming the permanent transfer. The Bavarian side will pay an initial fee of €3.5 million for the 21-year-old, with performance-related bonuses potentially adding another €1 million to the total package.
The defender has committed to a long-term deal running until 2031, tying him to the WWK Arena for the next six seasons. FCA sporting director Benni Weber welcomed the acquisition, stating: “We are delighted that Hennes will continue his journey at FC Augsburg. At his young age, he already brings valuable Bundesliga experience and has proven his qualities at this level. With his physique and footballing abilities, he fits in very well with our team.”
Financial structure and sell-on clause
The agreement includes a 10 per cent sell-on clause benefiting Hoffenheim, ensuring the Sinsheim-based club receive a portion of any future transfer fee. This provision reflects the defender’s potential market value growth over the lengthy contract, which runs until he is 27 years old.
The deal represents Augsburg’s continued strategy of investing in emerging domestic talent with significant resale potential. For Hoffenheim, the arrangement provides immediate funds while maintaining a financial stake in the left-back’s future development.
Heidenheim loan spell
Behrens arrives following a productive six-month loan with 1. FC Heidenheim during the second half of last season. He joined the strugglers in January seeking regular first-team football and made 16 appearances across all competitions, contributing one goal and two assists while operating from the backline.
Despite his consistent performances, Heidenheim were unable to avoid relegation from the Bundesliga. Behrens now returns to the top flight permanently, where he will compete for a starting role as the club prepare for the new Bundesliga campaign.
