Augsburg head coach Manuel Baum has confirmed that the club is in talks with goalkeeper Finn Dahmen, following reports linking the player with a move to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
Bayern are reportedly in the market for an experienced backup goalkeeper to support Jonas Urbig, who is expected to step into the primary role once Manuel Neuer retires next summer. Dahmen has emerged as a potential candidate for the Bavarian giants.
Augsburg’s Stance on Player Departures
Speaking on the situation, Baum acknowledged the interest in his player. “It’s already part of Augsburg’s philosophy that we sometimes allow players to leave if they are performing above expectations,” Baum stated, adding, “If someone is among the best in the Bundesliga, then they will certainly be of interest to the best clubs in the Bundesliga. We discuss that internally. Of course, there are talks with Finn.”
Dahmen’s current contract with Augsburg is set to expire next summer, which could make him an attractive option for clubs looking for a free transfer or a reduced fee in the upcoming windows.
Bayern’s Goalkeeper Search
The search for a reliable backup is crucial for Bayern as they plan for the post-Neuer era. While Urbig is earmarked as the long-term successor, the club seeks a seasoned professional to provide cover and competition.
Beyond Dahmen, Bayern Munich is also reportedly considering Marvin Schwäbe of FC Köln. Schwäbe’s contract with his current club runs until 2027, suggesting a different negotiation dynamic compared to Dahmen’s expiring deal.
Dahmen’s Future Decision
Baum also touched upon the personal decision facing Dahmen, who will turn 29 in March. “Finn has to ask himself: Do I already want to move into the second row, or do I want to stay at a Bundesliga club where I’m the first choice?” Baum remarked, highlighting the significant career choice ahead for the goalkeeper.
The coming months will likely see further developments as Bayern continues its search and Dahmen weighs his options ahead of his contract expiry.
