Aurélien Tchouaméni has committed his long-term future to Real Madrid by agreeing a contract extension that will run until 2031, effectively ending Manchester United‘s pursuit of the France international.

According to RMC Sport, the 26-year-old has reached an agreement with the Spanish club to extend his stay beyond his initial contract terms. The news comes amid reports that Manchester United had identified Tchouaméni as a primary target to spearhead their midfield rebuild.

The Telegraph indicated that the Old Trafford hierarchy viewed the former AS Monaco star as a serious option to strengthen their engine room. However, lingering doubts regarding the transfer fee required to secure his services appear to have been justified, with the player instead choosing to extend his association with the Spanish giants.

Six-year stay secured

Tchouaméni initially joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2022, commanding a €100 million fee from Monaco. He signed a six-year deal at that time, but has now negotiated fresh terms that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until he is 32 years old.

The midfielder has established himself as a key figure within the squad, forming part of an influential French contingent. He continues to line up alongside international teammates Ferland Mendy, Ibrahima Konaté, Eduardo Camavinga and Kylian Mbappé in what has become a significant core of French internationals at the club.

Market implications

The extension represents a significant setback for Manchester United’s recruitment strategy. With Tchouaméni now unavailable, the Premier League side must look elsewhere as they seek to address their midfield requirements.

For Real Madrid, securing Tchouaméni’s signature until 2031 ensures stability in the midfield for the medium to long term. The deal removes any immediate uncertainty regarding his future and blocks potential suitors from testing the club’s resolve with future bids.

The announcement solidifies the 26-year-old’s status as a central pillar of the Madrid midfield for years to come, with the contract running through the prime years of his career.
