Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund have reportedly reached an agreement over the transfer of winger Karim Adeyemi. The understanding covers a fee structure that reflects the player’s contractual situation, though the deal is yet to be officially announced by either club.

Financial package

The Catalan club will pay an initial €22 million to secure the Germany international’s services, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano. A further €9 million in performance-related bonuses could take the total package to €31 million. These additional payments are understood to depend on team achievements such as titles won and the number of appearances Adeyemi makes.

Personal terms have also been settled. Sky Germany reports that the attacker will sign a five-year contract worth €6 million annually. This represents a significant step in his career as he prepares to compete for silverware in La Liga.

Contract situation and valuation

The negotiated fee is notably lower than the €30 million Dortmund paid RB Salzburg to sign Adeyemi four years ago. This depreciation reflects the reality that his contract at Signal Iduna Park expires in 12 months, and the player had indicated no desire to extend his stay beyond 2026. Rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer, Dortmund have accepted a reduced immediate return while maximising future potential.

Crucially, the Bundesliga side have inserted a 35 per cent sell-on clause into the agreement. This mechanism ensures they will receive more than a third of any future transfer fee should Barcelona sell the winger later in his career, providing long-term financial protection despite the discounted upfront payment.

Next steps

With the financial framework agreed between the clubs, attention now turns to the formal completion of the move. Adeyemi is expected to undergo a medical examination in the coming days before the transfer is officially announced. The deal represents Barcelona’s continued focus on acquiring young attacking talent with significant resale value, while Dortmund mitigate their loss through the structured sell-on arrangement.
