Barcelona have secured La Liga registration for summer recruits Rodri and Karim Adeyemi, clearing both players to feature in Sunday’s season opener against Elche. The administrative confirmation allows the high-profile acquisitions to be selected for the trip to Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero after the club navigated complex financial fair play requirements.

Rodri completes a €76.5 million transfer from Manchester City, including performance-related add-ons, bolstering the midfield following his departure from the Premier League champions. Germany international Adeyemi arrives from Borussia Dortmund for €22 million, adding attacking depth to Hansi Flick’s squad.

The registrations signal improved financial governance after Barcelona restored compliance with La Liga’s 1:1 Fair Play ratio this summer. Under these regulations, clubs must demonstrate equivalent income or savings for every euro spent on new signings—a standard that previously forced the Catalans to rely on emergency accounting measures.

Outstanding registration cases

Despite the progress with Rodri and Adeyemi, Barcelona’s squad preparation remains incomplete. Winger Anthony Gordon and full-back João Cancelo are yet to be registered, though the club expects to resolve both situations before kick-off.

Centre-back Andreas Christensen also awaits registration after signing a new contract this summer. The Denmark international’s previous agreement expired on 30 June, necessitating fresh documentation to confirm his eligibility for the campaign ahead.

Title defence begins

The reigning champions commence their La Liga title defence against Elche on Sunday evening. The fixture offers Flick the opportunity to integrate new signings immediately, with Rodri and Adeyemi now available for selection.

Barcelona aim to secure maximum points against the newly promoted side, establishing early momentum as they pursue consecutive domestic championships.
