Bayern Munich’s Interest in Koundé
Bayern Munich are reportedly showing interest in acquiring FC Barcelona defender Jules Koundé. The German champions are said to be exploring options to bolster their defence, with Koundé emerging as a potential target.
According to reports from Spain, Bayern’s pursuit of the French international is linked to their plans for South Korean centre-back Kim Min-jae. Bayern are reportedly looking to sell Kim Min-jae in the upcoming January transfer window, hoping to secure a fee of around €40 million.
Koundé’s Situation at Barcelona
Jules Koundé, who is under contract with Barcelona until 2030, has reportedly seen his standing within the squad shift this season. The versatile defender, capable of playing both at centre-back and right-back, has reportedly slipped down the pecking order at the Catalan club.
While Koundé has not yet indicated a desire to leave Barcelona, it is suggested that a prolonged substitute role might not be ideal for the 27-year-old French international in the long term. This situation could potentially open the door for clubs like Bayern Munich to make a move.
Bayern’s Defensive Strategy and Other Options
Should Bayern succeed in offloading Kim Min-jae, who has been linked with Premier League clubs Tottenham and Aston Villa, as well as Italian side AC Milan, they would then look for a replacement. Alongside Koundé, Benfica‘s Tomás Araújo is also believed to be among Bayern’s defensive options.
It is important to note that, as of now, Bayern Munich has not made direct contact with Koundé. However, the Bavarian club could intensify their interest if the defender signals a willingness to depart from Barcelona.
