Genesio pushes to retain Aubameyang

New Olympique de Marseille manager Bruno Genesio wants Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to remain at the club, creating uncertainty over the veteran striker’s expected departure. The 37-year-old Gabonese international had been made available for transfer as the French club sought to reduce its wage bill amid a period of austerity.

However, Genesio’s arrival has complicated those plans. The new manager has exchanged views with Aubameyang and is now scheduled to hold talks with the club’s hierarchy to make the case for keeping the forward. This represents a significant shift from the position earlier this month, when Marseille were reportedly eager to move the former Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona player on.

The striker’s experience at the highest level appears to have convinced Genesio that he remains valuable to the squad, despite the financial savings his sale would generate.

Turkish club awaits green light

Despite Genesio’s preference, Corum FK remain in advanced negotiations to sign Aubameyang. The newly promoted Turkish Süper Lig club has already held face-to-face meetings with the player’s representatives and secured an agreement in principle with the striker himself.

The deal cannot proceed, however, without Marseille’s approval. Corum FK must still reach a transfer agreement with the French club, who currently face a decision between sporting ambition and financial prudence. The Turkish side view Aubameyang as a statement signing as they prepare for their first season in the top flight following their recent promotion.

Alternative destinations emerge

Should the Corum FK move collapse, Aubameyang has other options. Major League Soccer clubs in the United States have also registered interest in the experienced forward, offering another potential route away from Ligue 1.

The coming days will prove decisive as Genesio meets with Marseille’s leadership. The outcome will determine whether Aubameyang extends his stay in the south of France or embarks on a new chapter in Turkey or North America.
