Chelsea have initiated contact with representatives of Bologna winger Jonathan Rowe as they seek to add attacking width to their squad this summer. The England Under-21 international has emerged as a target for the Premier League club, with discussions taking place in recent days.

The 23-year-old is one of several wide players under consideration by the London club. Chelsea are also assessing West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville and Francisco Trincão as options to strengthen their flanks. No formal bid has been submitted to the Italian side at this stage.

Bologna reluctant to sell

The Serie A club would prefer to retain Rowe and have not actively placed him on the transfer market. Nevertheless, Bologna have established a pattern of selling key players to Premier League sides in recent windows. Defender Riccardo Calafiori and midfielder Dan Ndoye both completed moves to English clubs in previous seasons, demonstrating the club’s willingness to negotiate when suitable offers materialise.

Rowe finished the previous campaign strongly, contributing goals and assists across league, European and cup competitions. His performances have elevated his profile among clubs seeking young English talent with top-flight experience abroad.

Aston Villa also circling

Chelsea face competition for the player’s signature from domestic rivals. Aston Villa have also been linked with a move for the winger, creating the prospect of a bidding situation should Bologna decide to negotiate.

The situation remains fluid as Chelsea evaluate their wide attacking targets. With several alternatives identified, the club has not yet committed to a formal approach for Rowe. Bologna’s preference to retain the player suggests any potential transfer would require a substantial offer to persuade the Italian side to change their position.
