Eintracht Frankfurt have officially confirmed that defender Rasmus Kristensen will leave the club to rejoin FC Midtjylland after two seasons in the Bundesliga. Board member for sport Markus Krösche announced the departure on Tuesday, revealing that the Danish international requested the move to be closer to his family.
“Rasmus came to us and told us of his wish to return home,” Krösche explained. “As well as being a very good footballer, he’s also a family man for whom it is very important to be close to his family.” The sporting director confirmed the club “had no desire to prevent him from fulfilling his wish” once negotiations with Midtjylland were concluded.
Kristensen made 71 appearances for the Bundesliga side, scoring nine goals and registering four assists. The defender, who began his professional career with Midtjylland, said he wants “to be much closer to my family again and continue my career back home.” He noted that his “son was born here in Frankfurt and that is something that will always connect us with this fantastic city.”
Teenage winger Pimpong reportedly joins in exchange
Whilst Frankfurt confirmed Kristensen’s exit, reports from Danish outlet Tipsbladet and Sky Germany indicate the transfer forms part of a coordinated swap arrangement. According to these reports, Frankfurt will receive approximately €6 million for Kristensen and will pay between €2.5 million and €3 million to sign 18-year-old winger Malik Pimpong from Midtjylland.
Pimpong arrives with a strong reputation in Danish youth football. The Denmark U19 international scored 24 goals in 31 games for Midtjylland’s youth team last season and has contributed three goals and one assist in three appearances for his country at that level.
Deal structure and next steps
The coordinated exchange, if completed as reported, would see Frankfurt secure a significant net financial gain whilst adding a promising long-term attacking option to their squad. For Midtjylland, the arrangement brings back an experienced international who contributed consistently during his two-year spell in Germany.
Neither club has officially announced Pimpong’s arrival or confirmed the specific fees involved. However, with Krösche stating that negotiations with Midtjylland have concluded and Kristensen expressing his readiness to return home, both transfers are expected to be formalised imminently.
