Serie A club Genoa have approached Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to discuss a potential transfer, according to transfer specialist Matteo Moretto.
The Gabon international, who celebrated his 37th birthday earlier this month, currently plays for Olympique Marseille but faces an uncertain future at the French club. Despite holding a contract that runs until June 2027, Aubameyang has been informed that he should seek opportunities elsewhere.
Proven pedigree despite age concerns
Aubameyang demonstrated enduring quality last season, contributing 14 goals and 10 assists across 41 competitive appearances for Marseille. The veteran forward joined the Ligue 1 side as a free agent last summer following a brief spell with Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadsiah.
His extensive CV includes prominent stints at Chelsea, Barcelona, Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund and Saint-Etienne. Throughout his career, however, he has never competed in Italy’s top flight.
Italian connection through Milan
Despite lacking Serie A experience, Aubameyang possesses familiar ties to Italian football. AC Milan held his registration from January 2007 until 2012, during which time the striker progressed through their youth system. The Rossoneri subsequently loaned him to French sides Dijon, Lille, Monaco and Saint-Etienne before he established himself in European football.
Early stage approach
Genoa, who finished comfortably mid-table last season, are currently rebuilding under manager Daniele De Rossi. The Grifone’s enquiry represents an early stage approach to ask about the striker’s availability rather than an advanced negotiation.
With Marseille actively encouraging his departure despite his contract running for two more years, Aubameyang must now assess his options. It remains unclear whether the former Arsenal captain will opt for a move to Serie A or pursue alternatives elsewhere. For now, contact has been initiated but no deal is imminent, with the approach serving merely as preliminary discussions between the parties.
