AC Milan have officially completed the club-record signing of Gonçalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain. The Portuguese striker joins the Serie A side for a fee understood to be around €74 million plus add-ons, smashing their previous transfer benchmark.
Ramos has signed a four-year contract with the Rossoneri that will run until 2031. The 25-year-old underwent his medical examination in Florida before the deal was finalised, with newly-appointed head coach Ruben Amorim playing a pivotal role in convincing the forward to swap Paris for Milan.
Record investment
The €74 million outlay significantly eclipses AC Milan’s previous record signing, set when compatriot Rafael Leão arrived for €50 million. The fee reflects the club’s determination to secure a proven centre-forward capable of restoring their status among Italy’s elite, even after finishing fifth in Serie A last season and missing out on Champions League qualification.
Amorim, who recently took charge at the San Siro, personally championed the move as he begins reshaping the squad to implement his tactical philosophy. The Portuguese manager’s direct involvement proved decisive in fending off competition from other major European clubs for the former Benfica star’s signature.
PSG tenure and departure
Ramos leaves the French champions after three seasons in the capital. Since joining from SL Benfica in the summer of 2023, he made 131 appearances across all competitions for PSG, scoring 45 goals and registering ten assists. During his time at the Parc des Princes, he collected 12 trophies including two Champions League titles, though he struggled to establish himself as an undisputed starter under manager Luis Enrique.
The Portugal international now returns to a league where Portuguese players have historically thrived. His departure frees significant wages for PSG while providing a substantial return on their initial investment, allowing the club to pursue alternative targets before the transfer window closes.
Immediate impact expected
The completion of formalities in the United States clears Ramos to join his new teammates immediately for pre-season preparations. Milan will hope the 25-year-old can rediscover the prolific form that initially attracted Europe’s elite, providing the firepower needed to challenge for domestic honours and secure a return to continental competition.
The deal represents a significant statement of intent from the club’s ownership, demonstrating clear financial backing for Amorim’s project as he seeks to rebuild a squad capable of competing at the highest level both domestically and in Europe.
