Hannover Secure Vital Home Win

Hannover secured a vital 2-1 victory over Bochum in their 2. Bundesliga encounter at the Heinz von Heiden Arena. Goals from Stefán Teitur Thórdarson and Marcel Hartel put the hosts in control, before Tom Meyer pulled one back for Bochum late in the second half.

Coaching Transition and League Standings

The win came in Lars Barlemann’s sole match as interim manager for Hannover, following the recent dismissal of Christian Titz. Sandro Wagner is set to take over as the club’s new head coach after the upcoming international break. This result sees Hannover move to seven points from their opening six league matches, while Bochum also remain on seven points.

Match Action

Bochum started brightly, creating early chances, including a shot from Christian Rasmussen saved by Leo Weinkauf and a Gerrit Holtmann effort that struck the post. However, Hannover gradually found their rhythm and broke the deadlock in the 24th minute. Franz Roggow assisted Stefán Teitur Thórdarson, who finished from close range.

Just before half-time, Marcel Hartel doubled Hannover’s lead in the 43rd minute, assisted by Kolja Oudenne, sending the hosts into the break with a commanding 2-0 advantage.

Bochum pushed for a response in the second half, and their efforts paid off in the 77th minute when Tom Meyer reduced the deficit to 2-1. This set up a tense final period, with Bochum pressing for an equaliser. Despite their late surge, Hannover’s defence held firm, securing all three points. The victory also continues an unusual trend in 2. Bundesliga meetings between these two sides, as the away team has never won any of their previous 16 encounters.
