Hull City are holding advanced negotiations to secure Belgium international Thomas Meunier on a free transfer when his Lille OSC contract expires at the end of this month, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
Advanced Talks Underway
The 34-year-old right-back is set to depart Ligue 1 after two seasons with Les Dogues. Talks between the newly promoted Premier League side and Meunier are described as advanced, though no agreement has been finalised.
Meunier joined Lille in 2023 following the expiry of his contract at Turkish side Trabzonspor. He previously spent five years with Paris Saint-Germain, where he featured regularly in domestic and European competition.
Consistent Performer for Lille
During the 2024-25 campaign, Meunier featured regularly under former head coach Bruno Genesio, who left the club last month. The defender made 35 appearances across all competitions, scoring twice and registering three assists.
Despite his consistent presence in the squad, Lille are not expected to renew his contract. The French club have already begun the process of identifying replacements ahead of the new season.
Hull’s Premier League Preparations
The Tigers will return to the Premier League next season after securing promotion. They have identified the experienced defender as a target to strengthen their squad ahead of the top-flight campaign.
Meunier’s potential arrival would add significant top-level experience to Hull’s defensive options. The Belgian has represented his country at international level throughout his career.
While the deal remains unconfirmed, the advanced stage of negotiations suggests a resolution could be reached before the transfer window officially opens. Hull City are expected to continue their recruitment drive as they prepare for the challenges of Premier League football.
