Inter Milan have completed the permanent transfer of defender Franco Ezequiel Carboni to Parma, with the Emilian club securing the Argentine on a contract running until June 2030.

Carboni initially joined Inter in January 2020 from Club Atlético Lanús and Catania. The defender previously gained valuable Serie A experience through loan spells at Cagliari and Empoli. His performances during a six-month stint at the Stadio Tardini last season convinced Parma directors to invest in a full transfer rather than extending his temporary stay.

The sale reflects Inter’s ongoing efforts to streamline their roster. While Carboni departs on a permanent basis, the club are adopting a markedly different approach with youth prospect Thomas Berenbruch.

Inter block permanent Berenbruch exit

Officials have informed the 21-year-old midfielder’s representatives that any departure will be structured strictly as a loan or must include a buy-back clause. This policy ensures the Nerazzurri retain control over the player’s long-term future.

Cagliari currently lead the race to secure Berenbruch’s services. The Sardinian club, where Carboni previously spent time on loan, are positioning themselves to give the player regular top-flight minutes. However, Inter’s rigid stance complicates negotiations, as the Milan side refuse to sanction an outright sale without mechanisms guaranteeing his return.

Berenbruch joined Inter’s youth academy in 2020 and stepped up to the Under-23 team competing in Serie C last season. He turned 21 in May and is viewed as a prospect requiring senior football, albeit without sacrificing Inter’s future claim to his development.

Stankovic precedent shapes youth policy

The conditions mirror Inter’s handling of Aleksandar Stankovic last summer. The midfielder joined Club Brugge on terms that allowed the Italian side to re-sign him, a pathway they subsequently exercised to bring him back to San Siro shortly after his initial departure.

Parma will now integrate Carboni into their defensive ranks as they prepare for the upcoming campaign. Meanwhile, Berenbruch awaits confirmation of his temporary destination, with Cagliari maintaining pole position despite the structural constraints imposed by his parent club.
