Inter have officially confirmed the departures of three senior players after their contracts expired on 30 June 2026. Goalkeeper Yann Sommer, defender Francesco Acerbi and full-back Matteo Darmian have all left San Siro, with the Serie A club releasing statements thanking the trio “for everything”.

Sommer departs after trophy-laden spell

Swiss international Sommer, 37, arrived at Inter in the summer of 2023 and served as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper throughout his tenure. During his time in Milan, he made 100 appearances in Serie A and 139 across all competitions. His medal collection includes two league titles, one Coppa Italia and one Supercoppa Italiana, whilst he also helped the side reach the 2024-25 Champions League final.

Defensive stalwarts move on

Acerbi, 38, joined the Nerazzurri in 2022 and established himself as a reliable centre-back, making 101 Serie A appearances and 148 in total. The veteran leaves with two Serie A titles, two Coppa Italia winners’ medals and two Supercoppa Italiana victories. He also featured in both the 2022-23 and 2024-25 Champions League finals, earning runners-up medals on each occasion.

Darmian’s six-season spell at the club also concluded on Monday. The 35-year-old made 150 Serie A appearances and 218 across all competitions during his time in Milan. His trophy haul includes three Scudetti, three Coppa Italia titles and three Supercoppa Italiana victories, alongside two Champions League final appearances.

De Vrij set for Panathinaikos

Dutch defender Stefan De Vrij is also departing Inter after his contract expired on the same date. Unlike his teammates, the 32-year-old had been offered the opportunity to extend his stay but appears set to continue his career elsewhere. According to reports, De Vrij is expected to join Greek side Panathinaikos, though the Athenian club have yet to confirm the agreement.

The exits mark a significant changing of the guard for Inter, with the four players combining for hundreds of appearances and contributing to multiple domestic and European campaigns. The club must now reshape its defensive and goalkeeping departments ahead of the new season.
