Inter Milan are moving to secure Pio Esposito’s long-term future with a new five-year contract, according to transfer journalist Alfredo Pedulla. The negotiations coincide with the striker’s 21st birthday and follow a breakthrough campaign that has drawn admiring glances from across Europe.

Esposito marked the season by returning from a prolific loan spell at Serie B side Spezia to score seven Serie A goals for Inter. His contributions helped the Nerazzurri secure a domestic double, while his club form earned a maiden call-up to the senior Italy squad. He marked his international debut with a goal against Greece, offering a rare bright spot for an Azzurri side that missed qualification for this summer’s World Cup.

The Italy international has attracted significant interest from rival clubs. Napoli weighed up a move last summer and were reportedly prepared to table incredible figures for both transfer fee and personal wages. Meanwhile, Manchester United monitored Esposito intently during his Spezia spell, with Pedulla noting the Premier League heavyweight watched every match. Both United and Leicester City registered concrete interest in January 2025.

However, Pedulla clarified that such speculation is now outdated. “There’s a lot of talk about Pio Esposito’s renewal. People are also talking about English clubs who courted him, but that’s old news, it dates back to January 2025,” he stated on his YouTube channel. “When I told you about a situation involving both Manchester United and Leicester, that was back in those days, even before he stayed at Inter.”

The proposed renewal would keep Esposito at the San Siro until 2030. Pedulla reports the contract would carry a value of €3.5 million to €4 million per season, supplemented by a €4 million fixed component and performance bonuses.

Securing the striker’s signature would represent a significant statement of intent from Inter, protecting a homegrown talent who has progressed through their youth ranks. With his international stock rising following his senior debut, the club appear determined to formalise his status as a key component of their long-term project rather than risk losing him to the English or Italian rivals who previously circled.
