Jamie Carragher has urged award voters to recognise Harry Kane’s sustained excellence by crowning him the Ballon d’Or winner, insisting the England captain has delivered the most compelling individual performances over the past twelve months.

The former Liverpool defender argues that Kane’s consistent contributions at both club and international level establish him as the clear frontrunner for football’s most prestigious individual accolade. Speaking to TeleFootball, Carragher made an unequivocal case for the striker’s recognition based solely on sporting merit.

“Based on the past 12 months, Harry Kane should win the Ballon d’Or,” he stated.

The World Cup Obstacle

Despite his strong endorsement, Carragher acknowledges that the Ballon d’Or rarely follows pure individual statistics during a World Cup year. The award traditionally favours the standout performer from the tournament-winning nation, a historical trend that threatens to derail Kane’s candidacy regardless of his personal goalscoring feats or overall consistency.

Carragher believes this voting pattern makes the England skipper’s path to the trophy significantly more difficult. “Unfortunately, he probably won’t because in a World Cup year it is bound to go to the star player of the winning nation,” he explained.

England’s Prospects

The 46-year-old’s pessimism extends beyond individual awards to the Three Lions’ collective hopes. Carragher, who earned 38 caps for his country during his playing career, expressed little confidence in England’s ability to secure the global title that would strengthen Kane’s Ballon d’Or claims.

“Much as I want to believe England can still win it, there is nothing to support that opinion, especially after recent performances,” he said.

Kane remains one of the leading names in the individual honours conversation following another prolific campaign at the highest level for both club and country. However, as Carragher suggests, the striker’s ultimate success in the Ballon d’Or race may depend heavily on whether Gareth Southgate’s side can overcome their recent struggles and deliver the major tournament success that historically influences voting patterns.
