Juventus head coach Luciano Spalletti has been left surprised by the lack of progress in the club’s pursuit of Randal Kolo Muani and Emiliano Martinez, having expected both players to arrive before the squad reconvenes for pre-season on 13 July.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, negotiations for the Paris Saint-Germain forward and the Aston Villa goalkeeper have stalled over financial disagreements. Spalletti viewed both positions as priority areas following the departure of Dusan Vlahovic, whose contract expired on 30 June without renewal.
Valuation gaps hinder Kolo Muani return
Kolo Muani remains Spalletti’s primary target to lead the attack after scoring eight goals in 16 Serie A appearances during a loan spell in Turin last season. However, a significant gap persists between the clubs’ valuations. Reports conflict regarding PSG’s exact demands, with figures ranging between €40 million and €50 million cited, whilst Juventus are unwilling to exceed €40 million for a loan deal with an obligation to buy.
Chief executive Giovanni Carnevali confirmed the stalemate, stating: “For Kolo Muani, the demands have not been lowered and we have not increased the proposal, but we are working hard on it.” Speaking to Sky, he added: “I wouldn’t just focus on him. If there is a big difference, we have to make the right assessments. We’re trying to do the best thing.”
Alternative targets and Martinez interest
Carnevali identified Alexander Sorloth as one alternative being monitored as the club seeks to fill the void left by Vlahovic. The CEO dismissed suggestions of a U-turn with the Serbian striker, noting: “We didn’t meet with him.”
Regarding Martinez, who is currently on international duty with Argentina, Juventus are reportedly unwilling to exceed €6–7 million. Carnevali acknowledged interest but warned: “Martinez interests us, but he’s also an interesting profile for a lot of other teams.”
The delays mean Jeff Ekhator may be the only new signing present when Spalletti’s squad begins pre-season training next week. With friendly fixtures approaching, the Bianconeri must either bridge the financial gaps or accelerate moves for alternative targets to meet their coach’s recruitment timeline.
