Juventus are set to re-sign defender Tarik Muharemovic from Sassuolo in a deal worth €18 million, significantly below his current market valuation of €40 million. The 23-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina international will return to Turin just one year after leaving the club, with the reduced fee made possible by a sell-on clause negotiated during his permanent move to the Emilia-Romagna side in 2025.
Sassuolo initially acquired Muharemovic on loan in 2024 following his development through the Juventus youth system, which he joined in 2021. The club made the transfer permanent for €2 million the following year, but Juventus inserted a 50 per cent sell-on clause into the agreement. This provision allows the Bianconeri to match any future offer while paying only half the total amount. Without this safeguard, the centre-back would have cost Juventus €36 million to bring back.
World Cup impact and rising valuation
Muharemovic progressed through the ranks at Juventus, featuring for the Next Gen team in Serie C before his initial departure. His stock has risen sharply over the past twelve months, with his displays for Bosnia and Herzegovina during the 2026 World Cup significantly raising his profile among top European clubs.
The defender’s rapid development attracted concrete interest from several sides, including Inter, Fenerbahçe, Como, Bournemouth and Aston Villa. Despite this competition, Juventus exercised their financial advantage and priority agreement to secure the player ahead of the new campaign, preventing a bidding war that could have driven the price closer to his €40 million valuation.
Internal influences seal return
The deal was accelerated by two key figures within the Juventus setup. Turkey midfielder Kenan Yildiz, who played alongside Muharemovic in the Next Gen squad, reportedly convinced his former teammate to reject external offers and reunite in the senior team rather than pursue opportunities elsewhere.
Giovanni Carnevali, appointed as the new Juventus director after leaving his role as Sassuolo’s strategic chief, has also proved instrumental. Carnevali originally negotiated Muharemovic’s transfer to Sassuolo and used his detailed knowledge of the agreement’s structure to facilitate the reverse move efficiently.
The €18 million fee includes €2 million in performance-related bonuses. Final details are being completed as Juventus look to bolster their defensive ranks ahead of the upcoming Serie A season, with the player expected to compete for a place in the senior squad rather than return to the development side.
