Crystal Palace are considering a move for RC Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangaré, a transfer that would reunite the 23-year-old Mali international with his former manager Pierre Sage.
Sangaré arrived at Lens last summer and enjoyed an impressive debut season in French football. He was instrumental in the club’s historic campaign, helping them secure a second-place finish in Ligue 1 and win their first-ever Coupe de France title. His performances in central midfield have since drawn significant attention from Premier League clubs.
Selhurst Park reunion
The potential transfer carries significant appeal for both player and manager. Sage was appointed as Crystal Palace’s new manager earlier this month after leaving Lens, where he had worked with Sangaré during that successful sole season together. Palace are now exploring whether that working relationship can be renewed in south London.
According to reports, the south London club have identified Sangaré as a key target as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.
Competition and valuation
Palace are not alone in their admiration for the midfielder. Manchester United are also reportedly preparing a bid for Sangaré. However, Lens have set a firm valuation of €40 million for the player, reflecting his rapid development and importance to the team since his arrival 12 months ago.
With the summer transfer window under way, Sangaré faces a decision over his future. A move to England appears increasingly likely, though whether he opts for the project under Sage at Palace or the opportunity at United remains to be seen.
Crystal Palace are also monitoring Toulouse FC’s Charlie Cresswell as they continue their recruitment drive.
