Olympique de Marseille have rejected a €8m bid from Qatari side Al-Sadd for central defender Nayef Aguerd, deeming the offer insufficient. The Ligue 1 club are actively seeking to offload the Moroccan to strengthen their financial position before the transfer window closes.

According to reports, Marseille dismissed the proposal from the Qatari Stars League outfit as unsatisfactory. The club’s hierarchy are holding out for a higher fee for the 30-year-old, who faces an uncertain future at the Stade Vélodrome despite being tied to the club on a long-term contract.

Al-Sadd had previously expressed interest in the defender several weeks ago and returned with the formal €8m approach. However, Marseille immediately turned down the bid, indicating they value the player significantly higher than the current offer.

Collapsed Real Sociedad Transfer

The rejection comes shortly after Aguerd’s proposed move to Real Sociedad collapsed at the last minute. Marseille believed they had secured his departure to the Spanish La Liga side, but negotiations broke down, leaving the defender stranded in France.

This failure has forced Marseille to restart discussions with alternative suitors. With the transfer window entering its final days, the French side are under increasing pressure to finalise a sale to boost their finances and trim the wage bill.

Long-Term Contract and Limited Appearances

Aguerd remains bound to Marseille until 2030, a commitment that complicates any potential exit. His playing time has been restricted, featuring in just 22 matches last season amid struggles with physical fitness and form.

The defender arrived in France with high expectations, but a difficult campaign limited his influence on the pitch. Al-Sadd remain interested in securing his signature, though they must increase their offer substantially to meet Marseille’s valuation.

The coming days will prove crucial for all parties as they work to resolve the defender’s future before the transfer deadline passes.
