Bayern Munich prospect Maycon Cardozo has set his sights on representing Brazil at the 2030 World Cup after making his senior debut for the Bundesliga giants under manager Vincent Kompany.
The versatile attacker, who holds dual Brazilian and Portuguese nationality, has revealed that watching Brazil’s defeat to Norway convinced him to commit his international future to the Seleção. Cardozo now aims to maintain his rapid development at club level to ensure he is ready for selection when the tournament arrives.
Breaking through at Bayern
Cardozo described his elevation to Bayern’s first-team training as “a dream come true.” The academy graduate regularly works alongside established stars including Michael Olise and Harry Kane, drawing inspiration from their technical quality and professionalism.
He highlighted Kane’s influence specifically, noting that the England captain frequently approaches young players to offer advice. “Harry Kane, a sensational guy, as a player and as a person, always comes to talk to you and give advice,” Cardozo explained.
Having already made his senior debut under Kompany, the youngster is gaining valuable experience within one of Europe’s most demanding environments. Regular exposure to high-level training sessions represents a crucial phase in his development as he seeks to establish himself as a regular option for the German champions.
Style and international choice
Operating primarily as a left winger and attacking midfielder, Cardozo favours cutting inside onto his stronger foot to create shooting opportunities. He acknowledges stylistic similarities with former Barcelona and Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho, particularly regarding movement between the lines.
Despite eligibility for Portugal, Cardozo confirmed his intention to pursue a career with Brazil. Childhood admiration for Neymar and consistent support for the national team influenced his decision to prioritise the five-time world champions.
“As a kid, I always watched Brazil, also because of Neymar, but I always supported Brazil,” he said. “My dream has always been to play for Brazil.”
He maintained that he remains respectful toward the Portuguese national team, describing the opportunity to represent either nation as “very rewarding.”
Road to 2030
Cardozo has identified the 2030 World Cup as the pinnacle of his ambitions. Determined to avoid missing out on future tournaments, he has structured his career planning around peak readiness for that event.
“It’s my dream, one of the highest dreams, so God willing I will work hard, I will give my best every day so that when 2030 arrives I will be ready to be called up for the World Cup,” he stated.
With the tournament still several years away, Cardozo’s immediate priority remains securing regular involvement with Bayern’s senior side. Sustained performances for the Bundesliga leaders would provide the strongest platform for international recognition.
